Default Ruger Releasing a New Precision Rifle... in .22LR

You can read the article at their website.

    Thought?

Personally, I have a 10/22, 2 old Marlins, and a Mark III. I can't really afford to shoot much more than .22 with my teachers salary right now, so this seems really cool to add to my collection. Definitely a neat step towards long-range when I get the time and money (I hope). With really positive experience from Ruger so far, I think I might go ahead and pre-order myself one when they're available. What do you guys think? Yay or nay? How come?
    I just love shooting.

I’ve seen people start with a standard 10/22 and $1500.00 later end up with the rifle they wanted. If Ruger is making that rifle for an affordable price right out of the box that is also compatible with some standard AR parts and cheap 10/22 mags then were do I sign up?

May not be for everyone but it’s damn good for the market and to get new shooters into the sport.

My thoughts exactly! I was just about to set into customizing my 10/22... I think I might hold off just a bit longer.

Why do you guys have to post stuff like this? Christmas is over and my hopes of a new safe dashed. I hate to sell anything, but the inn is full. Dang!

This is a bolt action rifle that takes 10/22 mags, not a tricked out 10/22.

Certainly, but I'd be upgrading my 10/22 more for precision and less for round count, so this is exactly what I want. It's got some similar internals to the 10/22, and some better parts as well. You are right though, comparing it to the 10/22 isn't exactly fair, it's a very different rifle.

I've never been impressed by the accuracy of Ruger rifles. They're sufficiently 'hunting' accurate , but not precision accurate. I've had a few of their 77V 'varmint' models , and even though they supposedly had Douglas barrels , they didn't impress me.

I think I can wait for the price to drop below $500. I'm thinking in a year or so, it will sell for less.

I agree with you that Rugers shoot ok at best. The RPR's are shooters, but not the typical Rugers.
