    Default 300 RSAUM ??

So I bought a Remington model Seven chambered in 300 RSAUM.
I'm guessing the gun is 10 years old due to the caliber being discontinued years ago. Its in great shape. I bought it relatively cheap.

Anyone have any experience with this caliber ??

Anyone have any good reload combinations ??

    Thanks

    Rob

    Oops Sorry

    Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum.

From what I read it was supposed to be the competition for the 300 Winchester Short mag but never really took off like the WSM did.

Thanks, I haven't shot it yet due to a lack of availability of ammo. I guess when Rem. stopped making the caliber the ammo dried up as well. I could purchase it from Midway but since I reload I just bought virgin brass and a set of dies. They will be here tomorrow.

The ballistics look impressive in Nosler's Reloading manual. I almost bought a Remington model 673 in this caliber a few years ago but I have a couple of 30-06's that I load for and the gain in velocity with the 300 RSAUM just didn't seem enough for me to get it at the time. Good luck with your purchase hope it's a good shooter for ya.

First I've heard of that round. Several places on line have it in stock but pricey - $2.35-$2.65 / round !

The RSAUM is pretty much a pointless cartridge driven by marketing. It as during the time where companies were trying to convince people that short actions were better than long actions. Never mind that the 300 win Mag is superbly accurate and can shoot heavier bullets faster.

Its even worse considering Winchesters .30 WSM has a larger case capacity, shoots faster, and was introduced first (I think).

But it is still a good cartridge if you reload. You can find used rifles for cheap (but have to pay 2X for the brass). If the rifle is a shooter the OP would be advised to stock up on a lifetime supply of brass. The RSAUM is pretty much obsolete now and you won't be able to find any in 10 years.

I found a like-new used Remington 673 about 10 years ago, bought it for bear hunting. It’s one of the most accurate and easiest to load for rifles I own. Remington brass, CCI 250 magnum primers, and close to max loads of IMR 4350. Nosier 150 ballistic tips, 180 accubonds, and 200 accubonds all shoot around an inch for 5 shots with the heavies shooting the best (haven’t broken 1/2” with the 200’s but I’m damn close). I’ve killed several deer with the 180’s, it does the job just fine but I prefer something a little more “explosive” for a deer bullet. Hopefully next week I’ll see what it does to a bear. I noticed the other day that shooters pro shop has either blemished or over-run nosler brass on sale right now if someone needs some. Might save a couple $$
