Default Moving to the Harrisburg area

My wife is taking a new position in Harrisburg, so we’ll be moving somewhere in that vicinity after January. I probably won’t make it up there until March. We are from the MS Delta so I’m sure it will be an adjustment. I’m a retired welding instructor, and currently manage Bills Custom Automatics in Shelby, MS. The shop specializes in custom 1911’s, custom bolt guns, and custom AR’s. I will be looking for work when I arrive. I’m also an avid hunter/shooter. I would love to make some contacts in the area. Thanks in advance, and I look forward to our new endeavor!

    Welcome to PAFOA!

Pa will be a bit of culture shock to you after the south.

Y'all is Yinz in western Pa, and soda is pop

College football is about 1/3 as important as the NFL.

    Open carry is normal.

About 10% of the population has a License to carry Firearms (CCW OR CARRY PERMIT)

Thanks, I love college football, (NFL is pissing me off with the kneeling)! I have a CCW now and plan on getting one when I get there. I always carry concealed unless in the woods. Oh, I always vote conservative! lol

Hi John! Welcome to PA and PAFOA!

PA (especially rural PA) is very gun friendly. The cities, not so much.

There are a lot of nice areas not too far from Harrisburg to settle in.

This forum is THE BEST place to find info on PA firearms law, dishes made with bacon, and gay storm troopers.

Set your sarcasm meter to 11 and enjoy the ride.

PS- In PA it's a LTCF (License to Carry Firearms) Calling it a CCW here is a major faux pas.

We don't have grits up here, but we do have scrapple. You also don't have to worry about getting mud in your tires up here.

'Squiters aren't as bad here as they are down there and I don't think it's as hot and humid either, though we do get heat and humidity, just not as bad. POOFA people are cool, people you encounter on the street maybe, maybe not, we do have a lot of assholes here but not as many or as bad as New Jersey. Welcome to PA and POOFA, I hope you enjoy your stay.

Biggest adjustment here is that people are clammed up. They won't invite you over to have a beer or grill out. People often go to church then leave immediately afterwards. They can be sociable while you're doing what you're doing, but then afterwards it's like you didn't exist. They're busy but they don't do anything. It's irritating.

Welcome to the area. You will love it. I came from one of the New states but the western part where it is much more like central PA.

It takes about twenty years before you're no longer considered an outsider. They won't come to you, you've got to make the extra effort to show them that you're one of them, running for borough council, serving with the volunteer fire company, stuff like that.
