1911s and 1911a1s all required break-in. It was built in per US Army requirements/specs. The G.I. knew he couldn't hit anything in the first 199 rounds, so he fired a lot more bullets at the enemy, resulting in excellent suppression fire. Pretty clever on the part of Brass, if you ask me.
