Default Why do some ranges require an NRA membership?

A friend of mine is a member of a range that requires an NRA membership. It has an outdoor range that is nice. But why the requirement?

Used to be that the NRA was the only game in town when it came to gun rights, gun safety, and youth-oriented hunting-oriented programs.

"Why aren't you an NRA member? Are you some kind'a commie???"

    Maybe that's why?

Clubs receive recognition from the NRA for a high percentage of members. It's also just a good thing to do. The NRA spends millions per year defending our rights. How else will the NRA be able to fund their operations? I don't see legislation being passed anytime soon to create a NRA tax, even thought I'd love to see it happen.

The same reason why some restaurants require a black tie and jacket... ...because that is what they want.

The club that I belong to requires it. We have a member who handles it and the club gets a commission on it, just one more reason for it.

If a gun range / club has 100% NRA members then the range can request free grants from NRA for range maintenance and classes. The NRA have contacted us several times to see if we plan on changing our membership requirements. The grants are thousands of dollars.

My small local gun club received a grant to install a bathroom from the NRA.

I appreciate all of the responses. I believe I have a much better picture of why.
