Default Yet another newb AR question - charging handle with a scope...

I mounted a scope on my M&P15T last night. Nikon p series rings. That went well.

The scope sits back just a bit beyond the charging handle.

I can get to the charging handle but I'd be so much happier if somebody made one that is a hair longer so I don't have to carefully maneuver under the eyepiece.

I've seen plenty of extended latches. However, I'd prefer not to make the gun wider. Additionally, they all have reviews that talk about binding and wear from the sideways force instead of straight back motion.

As it is now, I can use it as is and will unless I can find exactly what I want.

The charging handle would not need to be all that much longer. Just a small amount.

Any suggestions? Or am I chasing a Bigfoot on a unicorn?

My feeling is that the scope is too far back, Id bump it forward a bit, when taught in the Marines with open sights when you are holding the rifle properly, your nose should damn near touch the charging handle, same with an optic, most folks who shoulder one as beginners tend to do the "lean back " stance when you should be leaning into it. think of it this way if using a carbine telescoping stock, when extended your cheek should be on the receiver tube not the stock portion

Get the BCM Mod 4 charging handle. It's the medium latch and won't add too much girth, but will leave you with a bigger handle to get to and a stronger system.

I'll try and get a picture up tonight. The problem is that the scope has a very narrow band of eye relief. It is a fixed 10x scope. I already had it and figured why not.

I'll shoulder the rifle again trying a different hold and see if that helps.

It's either this or get yourself a BCM extended charging handle

Same in the Army. Tip of nose to charging handle was a great way to index the same way every shot. Mine touched, not just damn near...

As others have stated... Your scope sounds like it is too far back and sitting too low possibly. The BCM MOD4 charging handle is what you seek for a better grip without adding too much.

The scope covers are making it look worse. But I still haven't tried a different hold on the rifle. That might make a lot of difference. Then I can move the scope forward.

The scope is not too low. The rings are meant specifically for an AR at 1.4" center.

Okay. I moved the scope forward after getting a different hold on the rifle. Moved the butt in one more click. It feels good still and I can access the charging handle.

    Thanks!
