Re: Yet another newb AR question - charging handle with a scope...
Now it looks better, here's mine.
A lot of people do seem to hold AR's wrong for some reason. Like my Dad would say ''you need to suck up on it'' and a shorter LOP helps.
I used to think like you and actually didn't mind the stock charging handle until I used one of my buddys rifles with a BCM Mod 4. Now I have a BCM Mod 4 and wont go back.
You can work it with your left hand and it does not feel like it binds in fact it feels right, unlike the stocker. Besides, you only really need to work the handle the first time rack in a round, after that use the bolt release.

Re: Yet another newb AR question - charging handle with a scope...
The last pic of the scope moved forward looks better. Still won't hurt to pick up a BCM Mod4 charging handle for easier use. Its also a stronger CH than the standard CH.

Re: Yet another newb AR question - charging handle with a scope...
Your rear scope position looks better, but the rear mount is on backwards. They should face the same direction with a wide gap between where they mount to the rifle.
Nose to the charging handle should only occur in the prone position if you're running a A2 stock. Your position on the rifle should not be forced, you should let it fall naturally. If you're forcing your nose to the charging handle you're putting tension into your shooting position.
Scoping a AR is a challenge if you don't have an adjustable stock to change the eye relief based on shooting position (standing, sitting, prone).Last edited by Hawk; November 4th, 2017 at 09:37 AM.

Re: Yet another newb AR question - charging handle with a scope...
According to Nikon, the scope mounts are reversible for whatever best suits the situation on your rail.
Originally I had a flip up rear sight I was trying to maintain.
But I like that the mounts take up less real estate this way. I don't believe turning the one mount around will produce any difference in stability.
As for the hold, it isn't forced. I just had to move the stock in one more click and then the scope was right where I needed it.
It probably isn't the best scope for the gun, but it is the scope I have.
