Why aren't they doing what they are supposed to do - run the serial numbers through a BATFE trace and return them to their rightful owners? If their rightful owners are felons, or the owners just don't want them returned, then auction them to FFL's. They'd generate monies that could be used to enhance the police force (or in the case of dirty cops, enhance their wallets ).

Hope there weren't any Sig P210's tossed into the melting pot....

Actually there is some fuel value in the plastic guns, but I am sure it does not exceed the energy needed to melt the steel parts. Either way, this is done for spite, not any intelligent reason.

For god sake, you guys don't believe steam generation fire goes over 2000 degrees do you? They ain't melting steel in there. They used to take hem to a steelmill to melt them down. The good ones never saw the furnace.

Actually 2700 degrees F was typical for the hottest areas in the coal fired steam generators I worked at. Now a days they try to keep it down to reduce NOx formation if I recall correctly.

You are not going to get close to 2700 degrees F with coal unless you are force feeding a lot of oxygen to it.
