Default Anybody here with recent concealed carry in TX?

I’m heading down there to take course this coming Jan/Feb. Fly into Austin. Drive to KR Training, about 50 miles east. (Check out the car rental rip off at the airport. $135 in surcharges on top of the car rental fee). I’ve checked out DPS and ? Handgun carry laws US ? I’d prefer additional boots on the ground experience if anybody has any. TIA

http://handgunlaw.us/ is my go-to for most travel needs. For Texas, look specifically for 30.06 and/or 30.07 signage anywhere you go, and 51% signage on bars. Hotels are required to have any restrictions mentioned on their web sites.

I flew through DFW. On my return trip I emptied my gun and mags into a factory ammo box at the car rental center while waiting for the shuttle to the terminal. When I got to the counter to declare my firearms I
    • opened my suitcase
    • opened the gun case inside
    • unholstered my 1911
    • racked the slide a few times
    • dropped the gun in the case with its twin sister
    • dropped the mags in an inside pocket
    • dropped the ammo box in the plastic ammo can in the bottom of the suitcase
    • closed and/or locked it all up with the form
    • headed to security

Lady at the counter didn't even blink when I drew the gun. Easy peasy.

There are gun law apps available that are popular with some people, but I carry a flip phone and can't speak to them.

Thank you, Sir. Excellent news. Been a long time since I've flown. Appreciate your help, especially the part about the hotel requirement to announce their restrictions on their site.

I carried in TX including Austin, Dallas and Houston all the time with my FL CCW and never a problem from airlines or anyone. Go to Rudys BBQ in Austin if you have time.
