If your Savage is shooting 0.3-0.5 inch groups why do you want to change anything. Your already there.

Take the $800 for an new chassis and buy another Savage 10 FP-SR. See if you can go 2 for 2.

Or put that money into a good scope.

I just can't get comfortable behind that rifle unless I am shooting off the bench. I am hoping that something with some more adjustability will allow me to be more comfortable in the prone or nontraditional positions. I would be more than happy to try a Magpul stock for the adjustability, but they don't make it for Savage.

Set on a chassis? There are options for adjustability with a quality stock from multiple manufacturers.. bell and Carlson would be worlds better than factory without the $800 + price tag. Still some left for a new scope...
