Switching BCG in AR15?
Building a new AR pistol. I think the new BCG my be better the the one in my rifle. It Has about 1000 rounds through it. Would there be an issue putting the used bolt in new pistol? Im sure there is no issue putting a new BCG in the used rifle.
Old one is a RRA chrome BCG. New one is nickel boron enhanced ....

Re: Switching BCG in AR15?
Doubt there is any change in headspace after 1000 rounds. If it were me I would just them as they are, I doubt the new one is any better.

Re: Switching BCG in AR15?
Personally, I will switch carriers but I wont switch used bolts. They stay with their barrel or they get replaced with a new bolt.

Re: Switching BCG in AR15?
No issue. BCGs specific to the TDP have been known to function past 25K rounds...
As long as everything is in spec it will run fine.On the seventh day God rested; Marines filled sandbags.

Re: Switching BCG in AR15?
I shot out a AR barrel (well for my application it was 7K rounds). I replaced it with a new barrel and kept the original bolt and carrier with no issues. Just inspect your spent brass to make sure. As mentioned if every part is milspec, swap to your hearts desire.

Re: Switching BCG in AR15?
Most people will tell you to go ahead. These rifles were meant to run almost any bolt/carrier group. But for me personally, I have a set of headspacing gauges. Cheap insurance if you ask me.
Good Luck!

Re: Switching BCG in AR15?
I only have two bcgs for four uppers. They get swapped constantly with no issues.

Stripping bolts isn't hard either. Why people won't spend a few bucks on go, no-go, and field head space gauges I'll never figure out. It's all part of the fun, but then most people don't like cleaning guns. I guess that leaves building reasons at cost alone? Throat erosion gauges are cheat too. Surplus is your friend, sarco.
