Re: DA/SA - the manual transmission of handguns?
I'm surprised. When I started this thread, I expected that the DA/SA fans would be outnumbered by the Glock and 1911 crowd. God knows there's a heck of a lot more people buying striker-fired pistols now than DA/SA.
Personally, I love my P-220-series Sigs with SRT triggers. I like the safety of the heavier first pull, and I don't like external safeties. I don't know why, but I shoot my Sigs better than I shoot my M&P striker-fired pistols.
In my yearly constable training & qualification, I'm used to being the oddball DA/SA shooter. Out of 12 or 14 guys, there's usually me with my P-226, maybe a 1911 a couple of miscellaneous non-Glock striker-fired guns like Springfield & M&P, and the rest are Glocks. It's funny - nobody turns their nose up at the Sig, but nobody else wants to shoot DA/SA.
And I've always owned manual-transmission cars. It makes driving fun. Power when you want it! I feel bad for these young guys who have never hit their rev limiter even once, or don't even know what it is.

My EDC is DA/SA but I'm more a fan of the SA part of it. I can drive a stick but don't own one.

PM Makarovs, Daewoo DH380s, and SIG P228s get rotated for EDC along with Glock G19s and G30s'. And I drive a 2005 Jeep Wrangler with a six speed manual. Learned to drive std on a 1951 Chevrolet "Advanced Design" 2 ton stake truck, and graduated to a 1958 Mack Model B42 and a 1964 Mack Model C600.

Re: DA/SA - the manual transmission of handguns?
Does carrying a P220 on my motorcycle count? I currently have an automatic in my pickup truck but I drive a stick just as well and half of the vehicles I've owned have been sticks. I took my driver's test in 1973 with a '65 Volkswagen Beetle. I had a motorcycle license first though and took it on my Suzuki 250 Savage.
DA/SA that's a no brainer, SW 645, P220. Striker fired plastic fantastic? Eh, not so much. Maybe when I'm 90 and too weak to carry a real gun.Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC

trouble with the DA pull on a TDA gun? get some snap caps and dry fire the SHIT out of the thing for a couple weeks. You'll get that transition down in short order.

Re: DA/SA - the manual transmission of handguns?
I have a S&W 637 revolver that I shoot frequently, always DA, and I leave an empty case in one hole. It's a good setup for me to improve trigger control and check on flinching.

Only if the bushings are good in the column. In my day a power shift you didn't lift off the throttle and sidestepped the clutch. I had the same color 70 but switched from 3 up top top 4 speed on the floor.

Re: DA/SA - the manual transmission of handguns?
The "manual transmission" analogy is actually a very good one.
Id be willing to bet that those of us you can drive a manual are probably better drivers for the most part too.
Being able to shoot a DA/SA well probably have a better understanding of trigger dynamics and other characteristics of a well seasoned shooter.
But thats just my opinion, who knows I could be way off."One must be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves” ~ Machiavelli

Re: DA/SA - the manual transmission of handguns?
I used to drive a manual (when I started it was called a standard shift), but I don't anymore because of arthritis. I would have selected DAO as a choice since that's my EDC, but you just gave DA/SA.
