I have lots of acquaintances but only 3 of these type friends that I know I can count on no matter what. As "eatmydust" said, "brothers".

I have friends. Three, one was like a brother until for different reasons we lost touch for years. We’ve reconnected and right back to the way we were.
As far as being there and helping when down it’s always been pretty much a one way street.

Same with my family. The closest relationship I have is with my dog and I’ve come to accept she’s gone since moving into this apartment with BSB. The plan is to get her back from my son’s gf’s parents when our lease is up in a year. I doubt they’ll make it together that long. I pick her up and take her to the park when time and our schedule allows. She goes crazy when she sees me and the parents said she sulks when she is back. I’m thinking I should stop putting her through that. You might wonder if she’s my dog why I won’t get her back. Technically she is my boys dog and the girlfriend has claimed her from him saying he didn’t bother with her. So when they split up she’ll be gone.

Yeah I love that dog. People have been a disappointment w/o fail my whole life. Family, friends, business associates. The dog has always been there, been consistent and a constant companion.

Your human friends, family, associates, etc. will never achieve the same level of trust, companionship and unconditional love that your dog will. Simple fact of life.

I'm sort of a loner. I am close to my brother-in-law, but not in a "knowing all the secrets" way. I tend to chat more with women, mainly about books. Never been into sports (except the shooting kinds), so that kills the main male topic. Talking politics USED to be fun...now it's hands-off.

A few of those points describes me.

I have some long term friends and others are just acquaintances that I am friendly with.

My last true soul mate, super close friend, was my ex-wife.. she burned the bridge when she cheated and couldn't stop until I walked out the door.
Crazy bitch waited until after I quit my job, got a new one on a different continent (here) and had shipped everything I owned back, then the night before I am to fly back stateside, that night, she finally admits how she screwed up and can she have another chance..

I laughed an evil laugh and said "Too late that ship has literally sailed"

Since then I will never let ANYBODY get that close again.. even my current wife know this, and yes it causes stress

I’m not a sports fan either. Although, as a news junkie, I can still hold my own with sports in social situations because I keep up with the major stories, who’s in the playoffs, etc.

...and I know ‘stuff’ like what an onside kick is.

Pets never lie. Random observation but sort of fits here.

Not true. My Black Lab swore up and down she didn't eat the two loaves of bread left overnight on the counter for a kid's school project. This, despite the shredded empty bags with matching teeth marks found at the scene!
