Most of us already know he's bought it..

He just puts these threads out there as some sort of obligatory warning, sorta like the surgeon general thing on packs of cigarettes.

LOL. I didn't "technically" buy it. It's put aside in gunshop safe waiting for me to arrive. I can never pass up a unique gun especially when it's only a couple bills

I see the word "Detonics" and I'm reminded of the late Jerry Ahearn, second-rate gun writer, and third-rate novelist of the "Survivalist" post-Aramgeddon book series. Ahearn loved Detonics Combat Master and Score Master .45s, and the protagonists in his books carried them. The writing was like a train wreck; so awful and campy but you couldn't tear your eyes away, and it would have you screaming out loud at the "deux et machina" plot devices. For example: In one of the Survivalist books, the protagonist just happens to find two boxes of the EXACT ammunition he uses in an old, abandoned truck. Not just 45 hardball, but the EXACT manufacturer, bullet style, bullet weight, etc.

Ahearn loved Detonics so much that when the company was resurrected, he became president. Neither he nor the company lasted long.

The Combat Master pistols were ground-breaking; see the following blurb:

Thank you, Noah. I never read any of Ahearn's books, but I read enough of his articles. I was really disappointed that Dillon Precision published his garbage in the Blue Press.

As for Detonics, they were getting a lot of press in the early '80s. They never really caught on, they were some of the early stainless steel pistols and galling was an issue in those days. I seem to recall that they had a recoil system that they marketed. A friend of mine had a Detonics in 9mm that was heavier than I cared for.

I would think any decent gunsmith would be able to fabricate a spring.
