Palmetto SA PA10 Gen2 initial thoughts
Last Sunday I ordered a Palmetto PA10 rifle kit and a stripped lower.
Both arrived this Tuesday, only seven business days, getting better...
Got a chance this evening to assemble the lower and get it together.
My first thoughts after getting it pinned together is that it’s a piece of crap with waaaay too much slop between the upper and lower.
Looks like I’ll be looking for one of those stupid wedges before taking it out and trying it.
The gap measures .029 and runs most of the length of the upper and lower...
Pretty crappy imo.
I’d be more po’d if I had more than $500 into it...
Maybe this should have been a random observation.

All of my PA stuff has been tight... Don't know about the PA10 ? All uppers I've ordered from them have fit well on several different lowers, and the lowers I've gotten from them all fit and function well. Call them ? or is this one of their "cheap stuff" items?

Re: Palmetto SA PA10 Gen2 initial thoughts
I know someone who ordered their PA10 SS complete rifle that they have been offering for $699.00 for the last 6 months and it's a pretty nice looking rifle with good fit and finish. It had about 6 stoppages within the 1st 25 rounds then everything after ran nicely. I will mention that those 6 were with steel cased bear ammo which could of very well caused them. It's fairly accurate or at least he was with it our to 100 yards.
If I was in the cheap AR10 market that's the way I would go.Join the GOA & save $5.00. https://www.gunowners.org/mac-subs-join-goa.htm

Sorry to hear that your fit between receiver halves is sloppy. I just bought a PA10 complete upper and complete lower last month and the fit and finish are on par with every AR I've ever bought new. I'm very happy with my rifle, though I haven't gotten it out to the range yet.

I don't care about rattle, the AR platform was never ment to lock up solid like a drum. Your supposed to be able to tear it down with your fingers. I have an upper from them that they smashed down the ridges on the delta ring. It was not a second. Maybe I'll replace it. Certainly not going to put myself through the hassle of a return. Go get the accu wedge and forget about the slop. Hey, how about the spring noise in an AR when you shoot it? If that doesn't sound like junk, what does?

Re: Palmetto SA PA10 Gen2 initial thoughts
I've found that when you buy separate uppers and lowers they might not always fit together like a champ. I bought a PA-15 complete upper and complete lower during their Memorial Day sale and found that the pivot pin was too snug to take down by hand and needed some convincing from a brass punch. I hit up my parts box and replaced it with a different pivot pin and everything has been smooth since.
Unfortunately, won't help you with your loose fitting upper and lower, but I've found it's a drawback from ordering separate parts instead of a complete gun. I'd guess they check the fit between the two and look for a better match if that was a complete gun, but that's just me.Your neighborhood friendly candyman, Tim

Re: Palmetto SA PA10 Gen2 initial thoughts
I bought a PA gen1 complete rifle used. The previous owner could never get it to run reliably. I found that the gas port in the barrel was way undersized. When I drilled that out to the proper size, it still had issues. Found out that due to the undersized gas port, someone installed too light of a buffer. I bought and installed the proper buffer and a Tubb's AR10 stainless buffer spring.
Since then, this rifle has performed without a hiccup.
You have to watch the quality you get from them. Maybe the previous owner replaced the buffer and spring, maybe he didn't, but the gas port was undersized from the factory.

I am very happy with my PSA PA10 GenII.
I got what I paid for and have had a lot of fun with it.
If anyone is interested I have a lengthy thread over here about it.

BTW... these will tighten up the fit between the upper and lower...
http://varmintlight.com/x-shim-ar-15-m16/
And even my 6.5CM upper shows that gap... and shoots shockingly well.
Full report over here...
