While I suppose that it might be better than nothing, petitions like this basically are of zero value. In fact, they are arguably of less than zero value because they give signers a false sense of "I did something so I don't have to contact my congressman" when the reality is that you didn't really do anything. They are a feel good measure and nothing more. The petition for Trump to release his tax returns has over 1.1 million signatures.

Weather or not this petition has any true political value-- it is sad to see that as of today there is barely only a tad over 50% of the 100,000 signatures needed.
