    Default Gun Cleaning Thread

I'd like to start a thread on methods of, products for, and enjoyment of cleaning.

So I'll start by saying I recently took the plunge on Breakthrough Clean's products and was not disappointed. Worked as well or maybe even better than Hoppe's No. 9. (which was my old standby) Biggest advantage IMO is that the cleaner and lubricants are non-toxic and don't smell at all. One source (which IIRC was Breakthrough Clean's YouTube channel) claimed that it was even certified for culinary usage. This is important to me because I have a bunch of animals including a few birds which are extremely chemically sensitive. I still use nitrile gloves for cleaning because of lead exposure. But I really appreciate the lack of stench associated with cleaning now.

If it is certified for culinary use it is either mineral oil or lithium grease. You can't use vegetable oils because they will polymerize and get sticky.

I’ve went through lots of cleaning chemicals over the years, I’ve pretty much settled on Ballistol and Weapon Shield.

I use the Ballistol for bores, wood and metal on my older milsurps.
Weaponshield on my newer stuff and my carry/ range guns.

MPro7 I find is my favorite crud cutter on guns.

Ballistol is great for all purpose usage.
