Student arrested after gun scare at PA College

DUNMORE, Pa., (WBRE/WYOU) - A Lackawanna County man is facing charges after a scary situation at Marywood University on Wednesday.

28-year-old Alexander Barowski, a student and Army National Guardsman, is accused of bringing a loaded gun into a building on campus.

The suspect had a permit to carry a firearm, but guns are not allowed on campus. Police said he showed the gun to another student and mentioned a recent breakdown.

The Archbald man is facing terroristic threats, simple assault, and related charges. Officers also recovered body armor, 200 rounds of ammunition, and parts of an AR-15 rifle in his car.

Barowski told police that he was having a hard time adjusting to life as a student and was taking medication for depression and anxiety.

He also admitted to having suicidal thoughts but said that he had no intention to harm other people. Barowski was taken to the Lackawanna County Courthouse for processing.
