Not necessarily. My wife recently got her "chaperoning" clearance at the local school district, and there was an "out" for the fingerprints: If you've lived in the county for 5 or 10 years consecutively (can't remember which), no prints required.

We'd be a lot safer if the government would just lock everyone in prison. Because, ya know, someone might be a criminal.

    Sheesh!

It is more essential for a government to respect liberty than provide security. And yes, liberty has costs and risks associated with it.

Bykovsky looks ridiculous in that gun pose photo.

The .gov isn't infringing on anyone's liberty, the people applying for jobs, posts or other positions know going in what the requirements are and they choose to proceed with the process.

Oh, you mean like when you choose to own or carry a gun they aren't infringing on your right to do so by making you do all that bullshit?

We do still have freedom of association in this country, that includes the kids in your boyscout troop or church's youth program.

It used to be the parents and the people running the program's job to keep out the perverts, but of course then we had sandusky and the knee jerk reaction the public demanded.

Finger printing and background checks on teachers haven't kept them from kiddiediddling. Every other day or so you read about another teacher.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Actually, No, they didn't. Many Volunteer Fire Departments and Search and Rescue crews lost members, because, "all members must pass child abuse checks by...." so members that have applied for "Jobs, posts or other positions" now had to submit to intrusive background checks. Members with over 10 years service resigned, not because they had something to hide, but rather they didn't "Sign up for this", we've also had new members change their mind, "yea I paid my dues, but I got half way through this paperwork, and changed my mind, it's too intrusive". This doesn't even start to get into the Firearms side of the house. People ARE put off and Liberties ARE denied by government overreach and intrusion.

So what do you say to that? Not only has the .gov intruded in liberties, it HAS put public safety at risk based on the Jerry Sandusky <sp?> situation and knee jerk response.

Has anyone replied to the author? I sent him an email of thanks and support, I also urged him to dig deeper. To his credit he responded not just once but twice, he seems to be a good guy, and doesn't want to "make a career of it" when writing about lawlessness of the City Government and Guns.

Well he surely could if he wanted too.

He'd never run out of material.

Actually, identification is the reason. Fingerprints provide a very thorough means of providing ones identification. Absent some extreme measures such as using laser or acid to remove them.
