I'm full of questions today. I have a Stag Arms AR-15 model 2 that I won at the 2016 Great American Outdoor show. I was curious if it is normal for an AR-15 with a 16.5 inch barrel to get hot after only a magazine or two. This is the first AR I've owned, the last one I operated was an M-16A2 with 203 under barrel while in the MI National Guard. Is it maybe that the barrel just needs more rounds through it, or is it because it is a gas operated rifle with the shorter barrel that makes it get hot fast. They way I shoot it, when I shoot it is usually one shot every two to three seconds.
The rifle only has cosmetic changes since I got it, mostly magpul furniture like a hand guard, vertical grip, and one of the fancy pistol grips. Is there anything I can do to the rifle that would be inexpensive or easy to make it run a little cooler?
