Default Man injured when rifle barrel explodes during target practice

SANPETE COUNTY, Utah -- When the gun Jared Young was holding exploded in his hands, he automatically expected the worst. Young needed 27 stitches. A hand specialist planned to do surgery on his nerves on Wednesday morning, but he believes Young will regain full use of his hand.

In the aftermath, Young is still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong

The whole thing is on the video!

Some things here do not compute. What do you think? EDIT: I did not know there was a 700 muzzleloader until this.

He said he may have left powder and bullet in it from last time used. I assume from that it is (was) an inline black powder rifle?

Some if not most of those 700 Rem based inlines use a brass case with a primer to set off the BP charge. Almost looks like a 40 cal case instead of a 209 shotgun primer.

Yeah, that is why when I saw a box of 'cartridges' I was confused when they said muzzleloader.

    That's a fierce firearm.

I wouldn't use that gunsmith again.

Didn't follow basic safety rules with his muzzle loader and he paid the price.
Took the rifle out of storage and loaded and fired it without checking the barrel with the ramrod.

Yeah, he's one lucky person. I'd bet he won't do that again.
