How did you acquire it?

Re: New to guns
If the markings actually say Polytech you have a Communist Chinese variant made for the US market and sold here from the late 80s until about 1994 when importation was banned.
I'm personally not a fan of the communist Chinese guns for a number of reasons, but apparently some collectors love them and the Legacy classic line of all milled parts are especially sought after.
Keep in mind, pictures would help ID the exact model. AK clones have been built by just about everybody so my identification is not gospel.
By the way, this thread should be moved to the firearms/rifles section of the forum.

Re: New to guns
Sounds like a Keng's import Poly Tech. Pics would be helpful. Look like this?: http://kfsindustries.com/poly-technologies/
It's a pretty desirable/collectable AK variant since it's preban Chinese. No more Chinese AK rifles are being imported.
You'll get lots of info, especially with pics, at this site: http://www.akfiles.com/forums/

Re: New to guns
I am familiar with the rifle and its general value, that's why I am interested to know how he came to acquire it without knowing what it is.

Re: New to guns
When you hit reply(or start a new thread), there is an icon in the header that looks like a painting. It's the third from the right, directly to the left of the film icon. Click the picture icon then you have two options. One of them is "from computer" and the other is "from url". I usually use the "from computer".
There is also a post here that will help.
