Re: Brandishing and firing off a shot?
Wow really?
There are situations where a person could draw and be ready and justified to shoot and then the aggressor says “fuck it” and stops being a threat. I’m not going to shoot anyway. Unless you plan on lying to police, that story isn’t going to work out very well. “I feared for my life and pulled my weapon. He disengaged but I was already committed to my action at that time so I shot him com as he walked away”.
Many people think if you use your firearm in self defense you’re most definitely getting charged and standing trial. That just isn’t so.

Re: Brandishing and firing off a shot?
I love when people try to downplay thoughtful posts as "long winded", as if there is something wrong with responding in an intelligent manner. Fortunately the downplaying does not actually take anything away from the thoughtful post in the eyes of most.

Re: Brandishing and firing off a shot?
Btw... looking at post 360 of the armed citizen thread, I did a tally of some #'s from 7/27 to 8/20. These were the numbers I came up with.
Going back to 7/27 there are 131 posts. 112 of the stories took place in July or August.
Since 8/1 there have been 120 posts, 74 of the stories taking place in the first 19 days of the month. That about 4 instances a day in August that I found in newspapers alone
Of the 130 posts, 89 are straight up home invasions. Many others occurred in the yard or places of business
In 26 of the 131 stories, no shots were fired. The homeowner was able to hold the criminals until the police arrived
26 easily verifiable instances in less than a month where the presence of a firearm stopped the threat. About 1/5 or 20%. Not an insignificant number of scenarios imo.
Should you shoot if your life is in immediate danger with no other way out...... yes
Can the presence of a firearm deescalate........yes
Will I shoot someone if the presence of a gun deescalates a bad situation. ..... No

all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
