    Question Question about a friend

I have a question regarding a friend of mine, and yes he is a real person and not me. He is currently prohibited from purchasing a firearm but the reason why doesn't seem to make much sense. He had, I believe 2 DUI's a number a years back(Over 5 years ago). He did get the interlock on his car, and served less than 6 months in jail(I don't know the exact amount of time served probably less than 6 months). In the time he had the interlock and in the years since he has not gotten so much as a traffic ticket. He even went and got one of the DUI's expunged from his record so he could buy a firearm again. He is still unable to buy a firearm because of the additional DUI that remains on his record. He thinks that if he wait's until April of 2018 that he will try to buy again and should succeed.
My question is why after all these years of a clean record is he still unable to buy any firearm? I thought that if after 5 years being free of trouble that he'd be allowed to buy again. BTW it was alcohol that got him in trouble, no drugs or anything of that sort.

Also if I remember correctly his trouble with the DUI's was back prior to spring of 2010, that's when I met him and he had gotten driving privileges back with the interlock by 2011.

Your friend has driving privileges restored but the charges are being held against him in getting firearms carry licensure.....does he live in Philly?

It takes 3 DUI's in a five year period to be prohibited.

No, he lives in Cumberland county, not too far from Harrisburg.

    No it doesn't.

It depends on the grade of offense as well. Some DUI's are M1's.

That's what I thought. It's just weird that no matter what he is still getting denied on the PICs. They always tell him he can try to contest it but I think he is getting fed up with trying and always getting denied.

He needs to stop trying to buy a gun. If he's prohibited he's committing other crimes by doing that. What he needs to do is hire a lawyer to look into it for him.

The question that comes to my mind is what is we do not know. Was there something more than 2 DUIs? We don't always know what there is to know about our friends.

What crimes would he be committing? Affording a lawyer is not really an option for him, he has a wife and child. While they make decent money, they don't make lawyer hiring kind of money.
