Default What is on the magnetic strip?

A bit of a story but I will try to keep it short.

My wife has had a cold the last few days and stopped at Right Aid for medicine. She went to purchase Advil Cold and Sinus. The casher at the counter informed her it was Federal law the scan her ID before selling it. When she asked why they told her to prevent kids from buying it.

First, for the kids sake, if she looked under 21 ok, However she is 35. Second, if she did look that young look at the DL, why scan it?

Is this really LAW, I would assume no but IMNAL.

Yes it is law, it is to prevent people buying large quantities of the stuff to make methylamphetamines.
As far as I know all that is on the strip is the same that is on the front.

yup when swiped all the data is read by the scanner instead of typing it in.

this is another case of the innocent being punished for the guilty. By doing this they are able to track your purchases to prevent someone from going to 20 stores and buying from each.

if you ever want to see what it says go to a liquor store and ask them to swipe your ID, it gives a long print out of all the info from the front and then you sign it to confirm its true.
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

That is B.S. I can not believe that is a law. It should be illegal to collect a list of anything bought. Where will it end?

    OK, I found this.

So that leads me to my original 2nd part of my question. Is the front of your license as explained (just the front) or does that also offer social # and so on. I still will stick to my that is bullshit to keep any list.

Background I was informed about sudifed.

The Patriot Act limits how much each American can buy per month. To stop the domestic generation of meth(which accounts for about 20% of the total meth). I was feed the idea was to limit funding of terrorists attacks. Truth is the majority is smuggled across the border into the US, but a wall is difficult to build, and squashing law abiding American rights is cheaper. Plus we are use to it by now.

    Tom

P.S. this is what I was told, I can't figure how sudifed was used in the 9/11 attacks. Figured Student Visa's had a bigger role.

IANAL but by my reading of this line.
consumers will be required to show proper identification and sign a logbook for each purchase
you have to show ID, and sign the log book they are just being lazy by scanning it. I'd make sure they had her sign a log book if they didn't I'd report it to be a smart ass.
