Default S&W sales are off by $100M compared to 2016.

"American Outdoor Brands, the rebranded name of historic gun company Smith & Wesson, reported a 48.5% decrease in firearms revenue compared with the same quarter last year, when many Americans believed Hillary Clinton, a supporter of gun control, would be elected president.
Shipments of long guns were down 57% in the latest quarter, president and chief executive James Debney said in an earnings call on Thursday. The long gun category includes the military-style rifles often targeted by gun control campaigners in the wake of mass shootings. Shipments of handguns were down nearly 35%. Overall, the company’s revenue dropped nearly 40% compared with the same quarter last year, according to chief financial officer Jeff Buchanan."

Obama was a hell of a salesman!
Interesting move by the company in July to move into silencers acquiring Gemtech.
“We view this acquisition as somewhat opportunistic, allowing us to enter the suppressor category prior to the potential favorable changes in legislation and at a time when the market is particularly soft.”

Smith could increase sales on revolvers easily by getting rid of the useless lock. Maybe they'll lose so much in sales because of their recalcitrance on the lock someone will buy them and do what needs to be done to bring Smith back to common sense. As proof go to Gun Broker and see that a new 29 or 629 sells for peanuts with the useless lock. Then check the sold pages and see no lock guns sell for more than the useless lock versions. To prove this theory correct recalcitrant Smith management should build oh let's say maybe 2000 non lock versions of a model 29 or 27 and ask $100 more for them than the useless lock version. How fast do you think the no lock version would sell out? I'd say in less than a day.

Imagine what their sales would be like if they gave a tupperware gun with the purchase of a new non lock revolver. They could make room on their shelves for some nice guns to sell. Too bad smart people don't run that company.

I've always wondered what would happen if they went back to pinned and recessed revolvers, no lock of course, with original style wood grips instead of the thinner ones they put on their "classic" series. Prices would probably be close to what we are willing to pay for originals so if the manufacturing was on par I think they would sell. That said, why the hell doesn't Colt start turning out Pythons to the same standard as the originals?

This proves Peter Lynch's maxim that good companies are always eventually, for a time, run by idiots, and one that the ones worth investing in are ones that can succeed even then.
