Re: Aussie's turn in 26,000 guns!
If the article is correct, the amnesty is intended to reduce the threat of terrorism by getting unregistered guns turned in. Now I wonder how many armed terrorists or wann be terrorists turned in guns. My guess is ZERO.

Turning in your guns to stop terrorism is like castrating yourself because the neighbors have too many kids...

They are zealots just like the jihadists in that their beliefs are sacred and immune from argument or facts. Gun control is like climate change and religious belief: no amount of counter argument can change a believers mind

Looks like a lot of war bring backs on that counter. Sad.

Re: Aussie's turn in 26,000 guns!
In the end the amnesty matters little in terms of the effect the government wants it to have. The motorcycle gangs and the muslim gangs love the gun laws in Australia because it creates such a profitable underground trade. They can get or steal semi auto AKs in other countries for a few hundred bucks or for nothing, import them illegally and sell them in Melbourne or Sydney for $10-20K a piece. Big money and it's just as lucrative as drugs.

Re: Aussie's turn in 26,000 guns!
It's estimated that the government only got about 25-30% of all semi auto and full auto guns that were in the country before 1996 in the 1998 amnesty. So yes there is a lot out there. I don't think most Americans would understand how sparse the country is outside of the few big cities. They just don't have the police coverage you find in the USA, so there is a lot you can do in rural Australia and the cops would never know unless someone talked.
