Fair assumption would be a box 25 to 50 rounds of your defensive ammo having no issues is standard practice for me,Unless its a 22 lr semi auto pistol !

^^You must be much younger than me! Every car I ever bought required some form of break-in for some duration, at least until the last few purchases. I can even remember being told to bring the car in for an oil change after the first 1000 miles and don't exceed 60 mph and no "hard" braking.

I remember and was not really a believer in it. I ran my motorcycle in the 1/4 mile with 147 miles on the odometer. It's run like a beast ever since I've had it.

The modern wisdom is to vary your speed a lot during break-in.

I've always said to just drive it like you normally would, but don't beat the crap out of it too much.

Counting how many shots you have fired is like counting the beers you drink at a party, takes all the fun out of it.

I bought my CM9 before the Shield came out. It was the best option for me at the time, it's totally reliable, I carry it a lot, but it did take a couple hundred rounds to break in. For a .380, I narrowed it down to the P380 and the Bodyguard, but the Bodyguard was painful to shoot compared to the Kahr, and I think the Kahr was more accurate. The P380 also took a few hundred rounds before it settled in. I bought both of them knowing they needed to be broken in, and I've been happy with both. I don't think it's so terrible to get some practice with a gun I'm going to carry, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

I have personally always felt that the break in period was just a way for the manufacturers to keep customers off their back for a little while should they get angry calls. By that I mean if someone was to call Kahr, since we're using them as example, saying that their brand new PM9 is stove piping almost every other mag Kahr c/s can simply state there is a written 200 round break in period and work through that and call us back if the problem still persists. With a little luck and at the customers expense they hope any manufacturing blemishes or burrs will somehow smooth out and they'll never hear from the customer again.

I've never personally had a gun that didn't run right out of the box, Kahr PM9 included, but can see how some things can work themselves out over that period.

Gas was 35 cents a gallon, and I used to help out the guy who ran the station across from where I lived. Pump gas, clean windshield , check out cutie driving, check oil, clean windshield (missed a spot), check out cutie driving! Only checked radiator on demand as this was before overflow tanks were common, and did not want to open a hot one. Did I mention this was when mini-skirts were in vogue? Lots of dirty windows...
