    Default Paperwork

I was filling out my gun log after buying a new shotgun for duck season and started wondering what is the recommended storage place for the owners manuals and sales receipt for guns. I always just put the paperwork in safe with the gun, but is that a good place?

I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

I have a file in the office with a time and date stamped photo of me holding it.

I take photos of the firearm, including one of the serial number. I throw that in a folder with all the paperwork from the purchase. And that goes in a fire safe, after I scan it in. My important data is backed up to DVD, and twice a year those are taken "off site". My parents are snowbirds, and we swap discs whenever they pass through.

I am strongly considering a safe deposit box, so I can take data off-site more frequently, though.

Thanks for the ideas. A photo and the safety deposit box sounds good. My banks only 5 miles away so it should be easy to do.

Why would you destroy your owners manuals?

Not the owner's manuals - just receipts and transfer paperwork. I should have differentiated.
