that front one is deep.... i wouldnt try to fill the hole, just put a spot over it then smooth out. its close enough to the end that pressures will be "low" and worst case youll get some gas leakage. you could fill with jb weld and smooth out the front sight will hold it in place. next time use a wider drill and dont go deep, it will weaken the dimples just enough to let them move when you press the sight off.

Yes, and the fact that it's such a small area and the rest of the barrel is a heat sink, it cools so quickly it gets very hard and brittle. Now then they do it on pinned flash suppressors all the time. There must be a procedure to do it or the location is far enough from high pressure to not matter.

If it's just a spot weld to cover the hole, i can see that but dont see how you would fill the hole to its base without opening it up a bit at which point it could melt through.
Maybe having a void in there isn't a problem and maybe the heat needed wouldnt adversely affect the parent metal of the bbl.
    Maybe I'll Google it.
I believe you fill it with a pin, then weld the top.

I don't know. Maybe try shooting it remotely and see what happens.

Tight fitting copper rod inside for a heat sink, use one small tac weld, let it cool. Rinse and repeat until it's filled in or over filled. File smooth and cold blue.
As stated from usmc, low pressure at that point.

Or tight weld it where you can really control your amount of heat.
Guys plug demilled barrels all the time.

Or get a new barrel, press it, head space it, drill your barrel pin hole, press the pin and call it a day.

That rotted-out area looks almost as deep and may actually be a weaker area than the two relatively clean holes.

Fill the end of the bore with thermal paste well past the area of the spot you want to weld up.
Use thermal paste on the outside of the barrel around the area you are going to weld up.
Tack weld the hole, remove paste, file off weld.
    Done.

    Like CoolGel?
Great idea. We use that material when brazing near expensive valve bodies doing medical gas installations.
Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

I've used Eastwood Thermal Paste for such projects.

If Cool Gel is a thermal barrier then yes, as long as you can get it to stay in the bore it should be fine.
