Got here late and didn't see the original video. The "DETROIT free press" yanked it and just has a stillshot of a woman pointing a pistol at someone you can't see.

Kind of makes me want to side with the carrying mom on that fact alone.

I disagree. Any physical force can be deadly. I've seen people die from stupidly little things. I've seen people walk away from wrecks that should have killed them. There is a huge element of randomness.

I helped break up a girl fight last year where I got the one girl separated and I to a room where another teacher said he would keep her in there. I went out to help get the other girl under control and get the crowd moving when the girl who was suppose to be in the room came zipping past me to get back at the other girl. I watched as another teacher literally tackled her to keep her from getting at the other girl again. Ask any teacher, they will take a guy fight over a girl fight any day.

    A good point.

Chick fights are always to the death.

And it takes less than a second for one to turn into the other, and longer than that to draw a gun, even if you're being smart and open carrying. 21 Feet, remember? Of course if mom was open carrying, I doubt this would have happened.

Thanks for the link. It is interesting they did not show what lead up to the confrontation. But, from what I see there were two upstanding citizens that had a girl on her knees and were assaulting her (while their young soon to be feral kids watched from the shopping cart). Assuming the girl on her knees didn't start the assault then.......YES, her mom was justified to stop the assault. Like someone else mentioned. It stopped the incident

Just media clickbate with an antigun theme. I doubt anyone will be charged but stranger things have happened.

I just watched that video about a dozen times. If I was on the jury I would not vote to prosecute the CPL holder . I would vote to have simple assault charges brought against the hair pullers.

While it was self defense, you need to have a few layers of protection OTHER than a firearm being your ONLY option.

The ideal course of action would have been for her to mace the attackers first...keep the gun holstered until you're actually in a life or death situation. A push and hair pulling are not quite there.

I wouldn't prosecute the woman defending herself, but you need to be able to stop a threat without pulling a gun in some situations. A crowded store like Walmart with children around and in the line of fire, that's not an ideal place to shoot someone.

Absolutely justified, but I still wish she had a non-lethal option first:
