Default INHERITING A RUGER 9MM PISTOL FROM A NEIGHBOR

I am looking for some informed guidance on what is legally required to transfer ownership of a 9mm Ruger pistol that I inherited from my neighbor. I am a firearm owner with a CCP. I am also my neighbor's executor and sole heir of his belongings. Anyone have any idea what I need to do to make this gun transfer legal? Any info is greatly appreciated. thanks

If you are not of blood/legal relationship to follow the rules of intestate succession, the neighbor would have needed to name you personally in their will as heir to the gun, or "to all firearms", or "to all".

If you aren't named personally as the beneficiary to it, you as executor would need to take the firearm to a FFL to have it transferred to yourself.

If you are named as beneficiary in a will for the gun - nothing needs to be done. But I'd keep a copy of the death certificate and the will. The will serves as proof of line of succession for "legal transfers".

BTW, your CCP is an LTCF here...so expect the po leece to set you straight.

It is effectively a CCP though. The name means nothing.

Thank you all for the info. I guess just to be safe I will go to an FFL to transfer it. You are also correct regarding the CCP - it is LTCF and I do not intend to attract any po leece. thanks again guys!!

"Gun permit". Everybody knows what a person saying gun permit means. Permit= government permission via (a little piece of paper makes it right) to possess on or about person. Gun= self explanatory, assumed to mean handgun.

Driver's license: no one insists that it be called License to Operate a Motor Vehicle. Driver's License number is also called OLN (Operator's License Number). No arguments there either.

Insistence on LTCF is a do it my way seldom tolerated in other transactions.
