    I'm sad...

That Ballester, poor thing looked great.

When using steel wool, just be sure to use plenty of oil or even Hoppes followed by oil.
And yes, as a purist I really don't like seeing that Molina with it's history removed, but it's not mine so carry on.

I get it. I don't like to oxpho blue unless 1. it's not a gun that has much historic value, or 2. it's pretty beat up. I decided the Ballester's finish was a little too far gone to leave it. Thanks for the tip on 0000 - that's what I do when not oxpho'ing. I use this great supt fine oil I discovered. Love it. Thanks!

Had a guy from another forum who is a refinisher/restorer tell me 0000 will in no way scratch a blued finish. I believe him seeing I have used it for years and never had any issues. You just need to be careful, apply light pressure, and use oils often
Got my big 45 now though - will try it on next project.

0000 steel wool will absolutely remove S&W blueing if too much pressure is used.

I've done it. I kept the Model 18 to remind me of it, and why I use bronze wool.

If it works for you, I'm glad. I'm once burned and now twice shy.

Will see how this big 45 works. Will probably try some of the bronze wool - actually never heard of that I assume "fine" grade. Thanks!

Bluing is oxidization, steel wool removes oxidization...
