Re: New to Deer Hunting
Great info posted so far.
Just to add, if you are going in solo, make sure you have a general idea of where you are in the woods and let someone else know your plans. Getting lost in the woods is not a fun time. Granted you aren't running the risk of falling out of a stand but giving a friend or significant other your general location can save time if you do end up in a pickle.Una Salus Victis Nullam Sperare Salutem

Re: New to Deer Hunting
If you are hunting public land, walking will most likely just push deer in front of another hunter. My advice is to look at where folks will be parking, guess which way the deer will head when those hunters head into the woods and have a plan to be at the spot at the crack of dawn. I hunt an SGL in the Poconos and I am always in my stand on opening day somewhere around 4AM. Then............just sit. Do not move. You are not going to sneak up on a public land whitetail (unless it is raining....). I have sat in my stand for 14 hours straight many times.
Have fun. Enjoy the quiet. Turn off your phone.
