SIG is saying this "upgrade" is voluntary so they are not covering shipping.
Not entirely accurate. SIG has not stated that they are not covering shipping, the are going to issue a statement on Monday Aug 14, 2017 with specifics:
As a result of input from law enforcement, government and military customers, SIG has developed a number of enhancements in function, reliability, and overall safety including drop performance. SIG SAUER is offering these enhancements to its customers. Details of this program will be available at sigsauer.com on Monday, August 14, 2017.

I glad I didn't buy one of these drop-fire Sig guns. If SIG isn't covering shipping one could expect to pay $50.00 + one way because UPS and FEDex both require express shipping on handguns.

That was said by SIG CS when they were contacted by the guy to send both his 320s in for the "upgrade". Maybe the rep was wrong, maybe their policy is changing. I don't see why there is a wait for more info from SIG, guess legal doesn't have everything done yet. Frankly I don't think SIG knows what SIG is doing over half the time. Going by the wording SIG is using for this whole thing they are trying to work around admitting this issue is actually their fault.(due to liability reasons no doubt)

This is one concern of mine the second is I really don't want the gun. However that said if I do shoot it and like it I am afraid of the diminished in the future.

Seriously how would one tell a repaired one from the unrepaired one?

Keep the paperwork when you send it in for the "upgrade" so if you sell it in the future you can show the paperwork. Don't know what SIG would send along but you could request documentation for your records.

Those who send their guns in will likely get a free mag upon return to the buyer.

I guess they are all out of the $50.00 gift cards that they sent out with the MCX upgrade.
