    Default New Colt 1991

Just got a new Colt 1991 Government model, blued.

Nice gun. Extractor tension seems to be perfect.

Question for Colt fans: How much did your new Colt rattle when you shook it? This one is noticeably loose side-to-side in the frame to slide fit. It will rattle back and forth with a very light shake. Barrel locks up tight as a drum.

    thanks

Sounds normal to be honest. If you're concerned, send an e-mail off to Colt.

I had a 1991. I wish you luck. mine sounded a lot like a coffee can with nuts and bolts in it.

I assume we are talking slide forward.

Yes, slide forward and hammer back with loaded mag.

    Sounds like it's within spec.

The rattle is normal, there's there to let the bad guys know you drew a gun.

Like in the movies. When Clint drew that Colt 1991 in 'gran torino' I think I remember it rattling

Exactly, a gun should rattle every time you draw it and put it back in the holster. Even Glocks rattle.

I remember having a second hand 1991 series 80 MKIV and researching whether or not the rattle was common. From what I remember reading the rattle was OK.

I sold the gun years ago but I recently purchased the new competition model (still the older series 80) and there is absolutely no rattle at all. The gun probably has less than 500 rounds through it.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

I had a Charles Daily 1911. It sounded like a coffee can full of nuts and bolts. I bought a Colt 1991A1. Much tighter, but still had a slight rattle. I bought a CZ. No rattle and shot better than the Colt. I sold the Colt.

I have several 1911's from different manufacturers. My Taurus is loose as an old whore (the slide that is) but the barrel locks up tight in the slide, and the groups are tight. My Kimber has no rattle and the slide to frame fit is incredibly tight. Some people say that the looseness of the slide is built in so dirt won't affect it as much and it will still run?
