Default Help requested: Question about the serial number on my gun

I was comparing the size of my .45 shield and 9mm shield tonight. As I did I noticed the serial number on the frame of the .45 looks like it is rubbing off. It is nowhere near as clear as the serial number on my 9mm. Is this a problem I need to worry about. I looked at the holster for the .45 and there is a protrusion where the serial #is. I haven't holstered/unholstered it more than 10 - 20 times since I got the gun in May so this is a surprise and strikes me as unusual. Any feedback is appreciated.

Looks like a partially obliterated serial number. Stop posting and contact an attorney.

yep, another five or six hundred years of that kind of wear and it will be a problem.

If the wear is enough for you to notice after this short of as time, I would be concerned. I'd contact S&W. And the holster maker. See if they have encountered this before.

That's where my concern is. If it is like this after 3 months, it can get worse. I don't know the legalities or how this would effect resale someday.

I thought that "electropencil engraved-looking" SN plate looked pretty cheesy when I got my Shield.
The numbers are hard to read, and not stamped nearly as deeply as any other serial number I've seen, but they do seem deep enough that they should "stay" that way.

I can't imagine plastic or leather could "rub them away".
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

I did not really look at the # until tonight, so it may have been like this when I got it.
