Re: Harbor Freight ammo
At the very minimum half f what HF sells is garbage. Sounds like the ammo "cans:" are in that junk half. Though I have never considered plastic boxes ammo cans because they break too easy. More like ammo dust boxes than anything, keeps the dust off the ammo.

For what you can get real ammo cans for vs what the plano "cans" cost, I don't see the appeal. I've used the Planos and I wasn't impressed, especially when filled with ammo.

Re: Harbor Freight ammo
I know what to expect from what I buy at HF. I buy what I need from them if it's something I will use rarely and don't need to depend on it.
Funny thing. I bought one of their drywall lifts for $160. It's not as good as the original Panel Lift brand which cost $700 new. The only issues with the HF lift is it's not perfectly balanced and I replaced all the I'm not sure what they're called, pins with like a pressed top hat type thing with bolts and washers and nuts.
The balance isn't much of an issue once you get used to it and can anticipate it.
And their Baker scaffold is just as good as the quality brand names

Re: Harbor Freight ammo
In the past year I went in HF once to look at trowels for digging up my finds when I go metal detecting.
What I found was some of the cheapest Chinese SHIT I ever saw. Left empty handed. What's more, the way they merchandised their trowels you had to settle for really cheap and really bad...or not very cheap and still sort of bad.
Fuck it all anyway.
The only hardware store I go to lately is a Do It Best partly franchised outlet in Pittsburgh...(Millvale to be precise).
Last time I was in there it was gun related! I bought a couple washers to make the Cocobolo wood grips on my Smith&Wesson 59 tighter without having to screw the screws in as far. They were preventing the insertion of magazines because they were not flush with the inside of the well. I sold the gun last spring.Last edited by FJW; July 28th, 2017 at 11:51 PM.

Re: Harbor Freight ammo
I use them as range boxes. Some ammo and other odds and ends. I have never filled them with ammo so I do not know how well they hold up for that. I am referring to the smaller plastic ones. They are good for my purpose. They stack fairly well and the foot print is a little tighter than a 30 cal metal can. They latch securely.
Some people just plain suck.
If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough.

Re: Harbor Freight ammo
I store my extra ammo in HF and Plano boxes, no issues, even those stuffed tight with heavy 40 S&W ammo. Use one for a range box too.
They stack nicely too.
Mine are kept in an upstairs, climate-controlled room. If I kept them in a basement, garage or harsher environment, I'd probably need boxes with better seals but they work for me.Galations 6:9...And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
