Default I am not rushing to buy a semi for hunting.

Was debating whether I should get a semi .22 for small game. It'd likely be a Ruger 10/22 if I did. I really don't see any advantage in using one. Can't use them for turkey because they are large game. I'll stick to my Marlin 25 bolt action for now.

Somewhere (on the internet) I saw someone took out a jackrabbit with one shot from a Makarov. I might try that someday. What the hell.... I carry one semi-frequently for CCW, so why not?

The 10/22 is good rifle to have regardless if you plan to hunt with it or not.

Not legal to use a semi auto pistol to hunt in PA, rifles only. The PGC thinks semi pistols are the devil.

The PGC has nothing to do with it. It is the Legislature that thinks semi auto pistols are evil.

Same with Sunday hunting. It is the Legislature not the PGC

The PGC has made their position on semis very clear with their whole rigged survey deal, among other things.

I would have eventually read all the rules. I was pursuing the hunting license more to get the free use of the gun ranges than to hunt, but I probably would have done both. My wife actually has a good recipe for rabbit. I figured it'd be a good place to start. I don't have a good place to cut up a deer.

I could see the advantage of using a nice semi target pistol like a Buckmark or Ruger II but as far as rifles go I see no advantage. I can shoot any ammo out of my bolt actions such as shorts, longs, and LR. Can't do that with a semi. Still can't use semi for turkey either.

Give it time. Semis will allowed throughout all seasons within 2-3 years.
