    Default Lehigh Extreme Penetrator ammo

Any input on this ammo from the collective knowledge?

I'm currently carrying Hornady critical defense in both my .380 and 9mm

Is the Lehigh ammo an upgrade, or not.

Let's consider fall/winter weather when the perp might have more layers on.

Yes it's an upgrade. It's what I carry in my LCP for hiking and backpacking.

IMO, copper bullets like this are the future. I'd replace all of my carry ammo now, if I didn't have a million rounds of HST.

I'll be following this thread as I've been considering LD also. Although I think I'm leaning towards the Xtreme Defender round instead of the penetrator.

The defender is what is EDC if I switched to this. I carry the penetrators in the woods for critters as well as humans.

Yes didn't realize the penetrators are recommended for outdoors activities until I watched the video last week. I'll probably eventually stock some of both

Reading on other forums, there have been some .380's that have had problems. I think it was on the Penetrator. Depending on how the round is rotated, sometimes the sharp end edge of the copper bullet has jammed on some feed ramps. I did see it happen on a SIG P238. Sometimes the rounds cycled fine, sometimes they jammed going up the reed ramp. I am guessing it was about 3 out of 4 were cycled fine. Not reliable enough for me. If it works in your EDC, wonderful. Just run at least a hundred rounds through to be sure they will always cycle properly. I can't say that I have read anything on them in any other caliber, good or bad.

That's good to know, thank you. So far, it's run fine in my LCP II, but I also haven't put a couple hundred rounds of it through it. They're expensive.

I also don't EDC it, but if I did, I'd certainly invest in ensuring that it was reliable.

At $1.50 a shot that is going to get expensive! And what if one does jam? Will you start over to check again?

I will stick to 147 gr HST's in my 9.

You can always use it as the round in the pipe - first round= no feed problems...the first shot might stop the threat, otherwise, you know your normal JHP's will feed and function...

    Good idea.

I've been considering alternating in some of the Lehigh's with my HSTs.
