Between 21 rds of .40, arrows with broadheads, and a sharp knife most problems should work themselves out. That said, I'm strongly considering a G20 in the future if budget allows to cover the large animal problem too.

Corollary question to all of this of course is what kind of first aid kit one carries at the same time. It seems 75-90% of problems in the woods involve patching holes and cuts on oneself rather than applying them to others, so preparing for one almost necessarily means thinking of the other. In some situations the damage may be mutual.
I willl answer both questions,a Glock 43 and an incident in N Y 1983 upstate bow hunting I was walking to my tree stand and spotted a person laying down on the platform I went to yell at this guy and then noticed blood running down the tree ! He inadvertantly unsheathed an arrow with broadhead and when hoisting himself up sat on the broadhead cutting into the femoral artery. No cells at that time just beeper But I did carry a blast horn for SOS,I got a response to my emergency call within 3 minutes all the while putting direct pressure on the wound,He was semi concious and if not for the blast horn he would have expired ! True Story so be prepared for anything medical emergencys ! MDT

Usually I carry my 9mm with 17 rd mag loaded with 2 snake shot and 15 Hornady Critical Defense.. mainly for when tracking/gutting and coyotes get too close, secondly if some whacked out 2 legged critter decides they really wish to be ventilated.. becoming more and more frequent people fighting over tree stands or poaching

Glock 26 with whatever I throw in it. 99% of bears will run at the noise. They aren't grizzlies.

    I haven't hunted archery in quite a while, but my go-to for a hunting/hiking/fishing gun is a .357. Either a Gp100 or LCR snubby.

When hunting in general I carry either my Glock 17 loaded with my typical carry ammo, or my GP100 loaded with 158 gr JSP.

In Bradford county, Glock 20 10mm with a spare mag both on the belt but sometimes in a shoulder holster.

Here in Bucks county, either my Glock 29 10mm or Glock 27 .40 on the belt with a spare mag.

S&W model 360PD scandium J frame in 357mag. I think it is 11 ounces empty, so it is easy to carry as a backup sidearm. I have a OWB Serpa holster and you don't feel like you are carrying extra weight. Secure, powerful and lightweight. Downside they are expensive, but cry once.
I have other options, but the 360 gets the most woods time.
