More people are "complaining" and "bitching" about the guys buying up dozens of rifles and settling by up tables at shows.
They are getting the cheap rifles that are supposed to be for everyone.

The CMP cares about cash, not about their charter.

As long as they're using the cash for the promotion of marksmanship(which I believe they are) I don't have a real beef with the CMP. Sure the prices keep going up, but as others have pointed out they're still below street value. Do I wish they would put a lower cap on yearly rifle sales, yeah probably. What has happened is that they have seemed to have shifted principles from "sell weapons at an affordable price so that everyone can own one" to "sell weapons to generate $$$ that can be used to support the mission of the organization". Honestly I cannot fault them for this because the fact of the matter is that their supplies are running out and what happens when they have nothing left to sell. These Garands are the last service rifles that will most likely ever be able to be sold to the public. Sure the 1911's are supposed to be coming, and who knows maybe the Beretta's after that. I was appalled when I heard that the 1911's would be selling for $1000+ but unless they're set up to be able to sustain themselves on the possibility of surplus handgun sales, they're in a sense a dying organization.

I feel even better. Just saw a Springfield Garand on gunbroker with mixed wood - different colors, ok shape overall with 7 days to go and up to $805. A Winchester with mixed color wood and 5 days left up to $905 and several others similar. $930 for a service grade directly from cmp - I'm good

I sent a order out Friday priority mail for one...Probably too late but I decided to take a chance since they were still showing in stock.

Wouldn't mind getting a LEAD like a lot have been receiving.

My rear is walnut and the front is beech with a heavy coat of poly.
My stock is beech and I'm going to order a pair of new guards from Sarco.
I'll strip the stock and finish them all with pine tar I think.

I am driving out to the North store (Camp Perry) this week either Wednesday or Thursday. I'll see what they have. The National Rifle and Pistol matches are going on right now and the store gets picked over sometimes.

I would like to get another one so I could shoot the shit out of it and modify it.
I won't do that to the one I have now.
