Checking Firearms at DELCO Courthouse in Media

Where to check your firearm(s) at the Delaware County Courthouse:

While the Sheriff has an office in the courthouse, they do not serve as courthouse security. That task falls to the Delaware County Courthouse and Park Police (“Park Police”).The Park Police are located in the Toal Building, on the NW corner of 2^nd and Orange Streets. To check your firearm(s):

• Enter the door shown in the photo below (indicated by orange dot on map).
• In front of you will be a glass door. Just to the left of the door are the stairs to the basement. Take the stairs.
• On your immediate left at the bottom of the stairs is a metal door. Go through.
• Directly in front of you is a wooden door. Go through.
• On your immediate right is the secretary’s desk. Very pleasant lady. Inform her of your purpose.
• She will provide a form asking for Name, Date, Department (skip),License #, Make/Model, Serial. She had no problem (e.g. she suggested) with me unholstering and laying it on the counter to read the number.
• There are two (2) metal lockboxes at the (your right) end of thecounter, about 6h x 8w x 12d, with good foam in the bottom. Form, gun(s) and spare mag(s) go in, she locks it and gives you a laminated receipt card. DO NOT LOSE THE CARD!!
• On your return hand her the card. She unlocks the box, you retrieve your items, then sign the form indicating you’ve received them back. Easy peasy.

County Government Offices door, shown as blue dot. Once through security here on the ground floor you will need to go up to the 1^st floor to cross over to the main building if you wish to see the sheriff.
