Strange encounter at diner with family: what would you do?

I've had several "encounters" with people that appreciate seeing well behaved confident children out in public. Most of the time it's just a compliment as to how nice it is to see children being good in a store. That said, I would have had the child graciously accept the lollipop and then once the guy was gone taken it from her and explain why we don't accept candy from strangers. Doing it that way saves creating a scene and allows the man to keep his pride, but also protects your child.

This ^^^^^^^^^ maybe the man just lost a child or grandchild and this his way of coping.

Apparently if we're somewhere as a group, we can't.

When the wife and I go out, She knows where to sit.

LOL Mine does too. She will even try to rearrange people so I get the gunfighter seat.

My wife knows where to sit also... I had my daughter at 8 years old trained not to take that seat... Today they just approach the table and go left or right on either side of me.

Next time we have a group meet at a restaurant we need to call ahead and request a table with all gunfighter seats.

I told my daughter that we don't take stuff from strangers, and that there is a lollipop at home for her. I examined the lollipop later tonight, and then discarded it so no one would mistakenly eat it. It looked alright, and probably was alright, but it's not worth a risk.

I understand completely. Still sucks that this is the world today. The creeps and freaks have taken something precious from us.
