Armed 11 Year Old Saves Fishing Party From Charging Bear

Hit the link for the full story. Excerpt is below
The bear ran through the first two men, who were pushed to the side of the trail, leaving Elliot Clark in front of his unarmed cousin. The boy raised his pump action shotgun and shot the sow, hitting it with birdshot, which is often used just to scare bears off, Lucas Clark said.
“His first shot was a light load of birdshot. That first shot hit him in the shoulder and did absolutely nothing. The next shot hit him in the nose and traveled down through the neck,” Lucas Clark said.
The third shot went into the bear’s shoulder and his back, dropping it to the ground. The bear was so close when Elliot hit it with his third shot, there were powder burns on the bear’s mouth. Still alive, the bear then slid by Elliot’s feet.
“As the bear slid past him and came to a stop, he put a kill shot it him,” Lucas Clark said.Sic semper tyrannis

Re: Armed 11 Year Old Saves Fishing Party From Charging Bear
So I guess he had two slugs after the birdshot? Good thing!
And some good reflexes on that young dude too.
I used to carry a shotgun for bear defense and plinking on the NW slope of the Shawangunk Ridge in NY sometimes. And once I did run into a 500lb black bear. He abruptly went down and away from me so I never took a shot. Sounded like he was taking trees down as he went, he was so stocked. I always loaded either slugs or 00. I also NEVER carried that gun with a sling, always in my hands or casually over the shoulder, and with a nylon stock sleeve with 6 more rounds, and maybe a few more in my pockets. Before that I carried an SKS around in the woods frequently. Not sure which was better suited....10 shots of "virtual 30-30" semiauto...or single shots of 12ga slugs...take your pick!i became deadly accurate shooting clays with that old shotgun, better than with my sks on pop bottles.Last edited by FJW; July 5th, 2017 at 12:45 AM.

I'm skeptical of the story. I'll leave it at that.

Shouldn't they be carrying rape whistles instead of using gun violence.
