Where can I shoot a rifle or pistol in PA without going to a gun range

It's not like it used to be. That's mostly because people are not like they used to be. Growing up I had a farm to the back of our yard. After school I'd shoot a couple boxes of reloads at clay birds when I was in 6th grade. And down around Pequea there were numerous places to set up targets and shoot with good backstops and little danger to hikers or others. We had a local dump too that was just part of the neighborhood.

Even back when I lived in the Empire of New York there were old mines and quarries where you'd never get hassled. The brass there was inches deep. It's been 15 years sibce I shot there and I'm sure it's different now. But in western P.A. it seems quite regulated where you can shoot: Clubs or state ranges, or on a private estate... that's it. There's very few places which are the "local swimming hole" of shooting sports. Its either this or that.
