Just as with teaching at a high school level, being certified to teach the subject does not necessarily means that you're qualified to teach to teach the subject. The shop owner may be teaching the USCCA curriculum flawlessly. It may just be that the curriculum isn't the greatest.

While I agree that the curriculum may not be the greatest, if one teaches Concealed Carry (IMHO) one *must* know fundamental concealed carry state law for their state, whether it is in the curriculum or not. To me, that is a prerequisite and unforgivable.

Of course the one explanation that covers it all would be if he is also a retired Philly cop who bought a gun store. :-)

I spoke with the store owner today, and he said that he had questioned this particular claim in the past. Since he had heard conflicting statements, he checked with a couple LEO friends and and eventually more than one person in the local DA's office. I asked, "Were these people from back east--you know, the Philly area?" Indeed they were. He's familiar with PAFOA and I directed him to this discussion. He thanked me and told me he's definitely going to have another talk with his current lawyers--who aren't from Philly!

Sadly, official PPD policy has been to promulgate and enforce laws that don't exist, and the Commonwealth is still suffering the effects of "you must inform" and "you must conceal" and "we only recognize Philly permits here in Philly" and "if your gun is stolen from your car, you automatically lose your permit".

So much BS, so little time....

LOL. You live in Upper Darby. Unless something has changed, doesn't Upper Darby and Philadelphia still touch?

Oh, and how is Mike Chitwood working out for you guys ?

I live about 1½ miles from that line, and I cross it less frequently than I do the Delaware. That should be telling...

Roughly 2 years ago I heard a blurb of his on news radio following an apprehension, "...he had 8 handguns registered to him..."

I haven't listened to a word he's had to say since...

Mike Chitwood has had a kind of flamboyant way about him that satisfies the needs of news sensationalism. It's an example of the symbiotic relationship, which will prevent his ever retiring. Kind of reminds me of recoiling a little at what's left of The Rolling Stones.

As for Philly police, I think a "gun pinch" might be viewed by John Wayners as a chest ribbon getter. Coupled with that is their uneducated-in-law magistrates (now judges) are likely to hold a bad pinch for Commonwealth Court.

I'd be interested in knowing the shop as the OP said he got a good deal on his Glock 43.
I go to gun shops to purchase guns and ammo not for legal advice.

    .
Mike definately is a piece of work. I think I read somewhere that he said he never carried a gun as a homicide detective in Philadelphia.

I have worked with his son though and I thought he was a decent guy and good cop.

You don't really get a commendation for a gun pinch. If you want to transfer to the Highway Patrol, gun pinches look good on an evaluation. Most arrests, weak or not, get held for trial at the hearing. At trial the motions to suppress are plentiful.
