general IT answer.
Not a comment about this site specifically... software should work based on what real users actually do, not how it's designers feel users should behave (;
If users are routinely doing XYZ instead of ABC, and this is known and expected, software should conform to XYZ. In other products, this would be called "correcting a design flaw", but in software it is called "blame the user" (;

I understand that, but until someone develops a Psychic AI to go out and get the information that wasn't provided by the user, it shall remain a user problem.

That will be filled with junk because people are lazy. Most don't want to be bothered to make descriptive thread titles on important topics, nor add in pertinent information. No just create some junk title, and throw in a blind link.

Yes....the classic problem. The advantage of formum software vs a business system is that you can ban users that do that (:
In The biz app we are developing, the decision was made to let users put in a ridiculously minimal amount of information...because users rule the roost.

How about a dozen or so users search for 9, or 22, or 45, of 556, or 44, or 17. Which terms get blocked and which terms are allowed? How much time should be spent by the staff curating the list of terms that are allowed to be searched for and those that aren't?

Block them all (;
Of course the real solution is to use machine learning to deal with it. Let it determine what taxes servers too much or adds minimal value to the results and strip things out accordingly. That is what the forum Software developer should be doing.

Sure, and the ML/AI can then go out and add in the information that the users don't when they post.
What makes you think there's a forum software developer?
