Re: Photobucket Demands $400 Ransom to Release Photos
A 1-Terabyte My Passport external drive is $60. I don't see why it's worthwhile or safe to store in an outside service. I've managed to get along without posting photos. Years ago I had a photobucket and later a EPIX(?) account for posting on a motorcycle forum. That forum went away, and I never went back to posting photos.

Re: Photobucket Demands $400 Ransom to Release Photos
Just received my email from them. Replied that they can go fuck themselves ! Glad I changed over to postimage.org just a few days ago ! Photobucket has sucked ass for quite some time - and now they are extorting money from users. Asshats.

Re: Photobucket Demands $400 Ransom to Release Photos
Does it make more sense to leave your shit sit there taking up their space and not using it?
I dunno.
I discovered that my first account is still there and images here from that account are still displaying.
My second account is the one that are blocking my images.
I saw the "message" posted earlier mentioning "users who exceed the allotted space", but that makes no sense.
In the past, when I reached the limit, a message appeared stating that, and it would not upload ANY MORE images unless you upgraded to a paid account for extra space.
I know I was "close" to full because they show a "percentage full" bar on the opening page.
All I can think of at this point is that they "opened the door" and let me exceed the limit in order to say "GOTCHA!"
That's just a guess at this moment though - I don't want to deal with it right now.
I just picked up a new Shield - the first new handgun I've bought in close to 20 years. I'm happy and I want to enjoy the happy moment a bit longer before digging into this mess any further.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Photobucket Demands $400 Ransom to Release Photos
Fuck them. The sad truth is I had little choice but to pay their ransom. Thousands of listings with embedded photos effectively DOA and sales plummeting. I could either pay up or go on firedrill to redo thousands of listings which would have taken days and days of no sales, and better things to do. So I paid.
So well played, Photobucket. You got me. Once. Now I have a full year to slowly erase you from my life and never take your shit again. I also have a full year (and beyond) to trash you on social media, boards and pretty much every chance I get. As someone else mentioned... Had you handled this reasonably "Hey, you have 30 days before the switch gets flipped, then you have to pay $ReasonableAmount per month" I'd have probably paid up and stayed with it.
So congrats. You got my $400 because I had no effective choice. Enjoy it, because not one penny more ever, and everything I can do to warn people away... forever.DGAF
