Re: OC Reasonableness...?
Interesting subject....
I was at the range yesterday with my daughter and her friend...I was OC during the entire day. No problem. On the ride home We witnessed this A hole in a souped up Benz driving over 100 mph on the median looking to pass some slower cars on the left side of the roadway....he passed two motorcyclists, which triggered some kind of response and they took off after him...The second motorcyclist did not handle the 45 mph curve well, at all, and proceeded to hit the guardrail, one of the yellow turn signs and ended up busted up about 40 feet down the embankment...That was a teaser to my OC carry.
I pulled over with sidearm in tow and proceeded to jump over guardrail to help the guy out...he was still alive but in bad shape...he hit hard and it showed. I come back up to get a bottle of water for the guy, happen to see a cop, flagged him down and went back down embankment to render assistance...all the while OCing. Didn't give it a second thought. The one officer comes over and asks us, who witnessed the event, for id's...I then notice I am open carrying and proceed to give him my carry permit. He looks at it, takes my info, asks for my number...and that is it. I was still a little shocked by what we had witnessed, but was floored by his non response. All's well that ends well.
Regarding your situation...I wonder if the guy was displaying his piece to ensure no funny stuff on your end. I think when you showed him your piece, it demonstrated you were a upstanding individual...Last edited by RenoV8; June 26th, 2017 at 11:17 AM. Reason: sp.

Re: OC Reasonableness...?
Society originally did not like being bushwhacked and so open carry was preferred. You at least knew who was armed so you could approach carefully or not at all as you desired.
This was so prevalent that only if you desired to conceal carry was a license required. And the license was not considered an infringement as you could freely open carry.
Now society doesn't even want to see a firearm at all like its pornography or something. Out of sight, out of mind. What you don't see won't hurt you I guess. But you can't have it both ways. This current manner is an infringement on carry (personally, I think all licensing is). But now we have shall issue which is a step in the right direction. I just can't believe people would rather not see the weapons at all. Invisible threats are so much easier to deal with, I guess. Wouldn't want convenience of ignorance be displaced by knowledge and awareness. We would have to think for that. Liberty sucks and all that. By the way, this is also why we are not a democracy. If we were - or thought we were - we would have all kinds of disparate laws that would cancel each other out. Then no one would feel safe to carry without getting into legal trouble. And that's how you can create an infringement in fact without actually doing it in law.
Remember, the gun you don't see is likely the one that will kill you. It gives the attacker the initiative and you lose your ability to give the gun carrier a wide berth, or a good look over however you prefer to handle those situations. It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Re: OC Reasonableness...?
Good god man, who are you to tell me it's not " wrong" to open carry, but...
So someone, hypothetically violates my rights, I assert them, yet I am to blame. Do you blame provacatively dressed rape victims? I mean, it' s not wrong to wear a mini dress but you sort of asked for it.
I'll wear my gun where I want, how I want, when I want. Because it is my right. Sorry you're so willing to waive yours, but keep your mitts off mine.Go sell crazy some where else, we're all stocked up here.

Re: OC Reasonableness...?
Actually YES, I do partially blame a provocatively dressed rape victim....as I would also blame someone who runs past a pack of wolves with a tray full of sirloin steak and get's eaten along with the steak.
My original post was in response to THE original post...NOT YOU...and saying there's nothing wrong with OC is simply restating MY view on the subject because the OP asked it and you are the one challenging it. Now here you are insinuating that somehow what I write is all about you?? Are you really that indignantly vein that "Who are YOU to tell ME blah blah blah??!!" is your first response? Wow. Just, wow.
"It's not wrong": This is my opinion on open carry in general, and I am expressing that. Get it? Unless you're telling me what opinions I can have(?)
I still believe that open carry in all places is not always exemplary of common sense and I stand by that.Last edited by FJW; June 26th, 2017 at 04:48 PM.

Re: OC Reasonableness...?
Really?
FUCKING REALLY?!!
You compare a human with the ability to understand right and wrong and then acting wrong with wolves (animals with smaller brains, lacking the cognitive parts we have) seeing an easy meal?
Wolf brain: Need food. There food. Get food.
Human brain: Gee, that's an attractive woman over there. Even though I have been taught since childhood that violence against others is wrong, and I certainly don't ever wish any violence on anyone *I* know, this woman I don't know is making it glaringly obvious in my mind by her manner of dress that she actually welcomes - or even, dare I say, desires - a violent attack.
FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE!!
